Aston Villa manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is "very disappointed" with the way his star player, Mohamed Salah, is leaving the club.
Rodgers, who previously managed Liverpool and Manchester City, has been in talks with several clubs to try and secure the Egyptian's services, but so far nothing has come through.
Salah, 27, has been a key figure for Aston Villa this season, scoring 15 goals in all competitions, including three hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and West Ham United.
The forward has also scored four times in just two matches against Burnley and Fulham.
However, it seems that Rodgers has no intention of making any major moves at the moment, as he continues to focus on the team's defensive problems.
He told Sky Sports: "We have got some good players here, we've got some very talented young players coming through, so I don't think we're going to be able to make any big changes until we see what's happening in terms of our defence."
It remains to be seen whether Salah will leave Aston Villa or continue to play for another club, but it's clear that Rodgers' approach is one that prioritises stability over the long-term development of the squad.
If the striker does decide to move on, it could be a blow for both the club and fans, who have watched him thrive under Rodgers' guidance.
However, there are always upsides when it comes to football, and if Salah chooses to stay, he may find himself back in the top flight of English football soon enough.
